Shrewsbury School UK is a boarding school for 800 boys and girls aged 13 to 18 years old.
It is set in over 100 acres of beautiful parkland in Shropshire (North West England) with playing fields for sport regarded as “the finest in the world”. It has an outstanding track record of sending students to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge for nearly five centuries.
Shrewsbury’s Sixth Form offers girls and boys two years of rich intellectual stimulus in the classroom, a wealth of experience and opportunity outside it, and an ideal preparation for life beyond. Within this new intellectual landscape, the range of academic disciplines is broad, the teaching of a very high standard, and results excellent. The facilities for teaching, sports, music, arts and drama are first class.
Shrewsbury is a school of great breadth but of high achievement; our Oxbridge entry record, averaging around 15 places a year, our concert and dramatic performances in London and Edinburgh, and the results of our sporting teams at national and international level endorse that.
Shrewsbury has always been one of the great schools of England, ever since its royal foundation in 1552 by King Edward VI, and it was recognised as one of the leading independent schools by the Clarendon Commission in the last century.
Many of its old boys - Sir Philip Sidney and Charles Darwin, for example, and in current times Lord Rees, President of the Royal Society and Astronomer Royal - have achieved great fame. Shrewsbury continues to attract pupils of great potential and capable of great achievements.
Message from the Headmaster of Shrewsbury School, UK
As Headmaster of Shrewsbury School, situated in the beautiful county of Shropshire England we are extremely fortunate in the range of facilities that we have and the top-quality teaching that allows our boys and girls to access the leading universities, including many to Oxford and Cambridge, and other prestigious institutions around the world.
After observing the dramatic growth and success of Shrewsbury International School Bangkok, we are now very excited about the launch of Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong. The strong relationships that we have developed with Hong Kong will mean that there is already a large groundswell of support for this new initiative. We hope that many of the boys and girls from Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong will seek to further their education at Shrewsbury School, here in the United Kingdom, in due course.
Doubtless, there will be many opportunities for liaison, both in sharing best practice, exchanging information on technology and encouraging pupils to enjoy the benefits of liaison, perhaps through sports tours or shared musical and cultural events.
I know that many of the staff from Shrewsbury International School Bangkok very much look forward to the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong to see this new school quickly emerge as one of the leading providers of independent education in the region.
Mark Turner, Headmaster of Shrewsbury School, UK
