The operation of Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong is overseen by the Board of Governors who advise The Principal on the full breadth of the school programme.
This advisory board meets three times a year and brings together a wide range of local, regional and international experience in education, legal matters, finance, child protection and safety.
Three representatives of Shrewsbury School (UK) sit on the Advisory Board, bringing their experience of school governorship in the UK context and ensuring that The School fully complies with the terms of the licensing arrangements.
The Executive Committee meets monthly and is chaired by The School Proprietor. In this forum, selected representatives of the Board of Governors and The School’s Senior Management Team meet to ensure that The School’s operation is safe and secure and aligned with the priorities established in The School Development Plan. It has a role in setting short, medium and long term financial plans including the operational and capital development budgets.
Message from the Chairman of The Board of Governors
I am honoured to have been invited to chair the Board of Governors of Shrewsbury International School, Hong Kong.
Having previously held the position of Chairman of the Court of the Bank of England, I have always maintained a keen interest in education and my sons and six grandchildren have all been, are being or will be educated at Shrewsbury School in the UK. I served as a Governor of that school for many years and as Chairman until 2007.
In 2002 Shrewsbury UK worked alongside the Sophonpanich family in Thailand to found a new school, Shrewsbury International School Bangkok. I was a Founding Governor of that school and remain so. The Bangkok school has been a resounding success and in many ways, through direct experience, provides the foundation for another Shrewsbury international school.
My background in education both as governor and a parent has made me well aware of the considerable financial commitment parents make toward the education of their children. However the provision of high quality education to one’s child or children probably represents the best possible investment that can be made on their behalf. We at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong will be doing everything possible to ensure that our pupils benefit from that investment and from the high standards that go with the Shrewsbury name.
